I thought this was interesting. The movie was is a thing in Tulsa culture and I've watched it many times.
Answer to the email: “Stay Golden” It’s a Tulsa thing.
Have you ever watched the movie The Outsiders? This movie was made in Tulsa back in 1983 with Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe and Matt Dillon. It's about A teen gang in rural Oklahoma, the Greasers are perpetually at odds with the Socials, a rival group.
You can go to the house where the movie was filmed in Tulsa and tour it.
This is the meaning to the “Stay Golden” phrase on the email.

After Johnny's death, Ponyboy discovers a letter from Johnny inside his copy of Gone With the Wind. Johnny's main message to Ponyboy is one of hope. He reminds Ponyboy of a Robert Frost poem in which the author says, "Nature's first green is gold." Johnny doesn't mind that he gave his life to save the children from the burning church, because children still see the world with hope. He encourages Ponyboy to retain his love of sunsets because admiring beautiful things is a way to stay "gold." Johnny also hopes Ponyboy will share his love of sunsets with Dally, stating that he doesn't think Dally has "ever really seen a sunset." Johnny hopes that his friends will not be tainted by the harder parts of life and that they know there is still "good in the world."
I think of it as Jesus Christ said in John 12:46
I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.
So let your light shine!
